2011 DIPAC Harvest Season Update
September 6 – Commercial catches of DIPAC chum salmon are over. Final numbers for both Lynn Canal and Taku Inlet were above forecast with over 1.6 million DIPAC chum harvested. The troll fleet harvested over 145,000 DIPAC chums from Homeshore and the seine fleet harvested over 175,000 in Districts 12 & 14. Cost recovery at Amalga Harbor and Gastineau Channel is complete. We harvested a total of ~11.4 million pounds.
Cost recovery at Snettisham Hatchery is complete. We harvested just over 108,000 pounds. All broostock has been collected and the eggtake should start by September 24th.
The Crescent Lake sonar weir was closed out on 8/29/2011. The Speel Lake weir will remain in operation until 9/20/2011 A total sockeye passed is 4,760 as of 9/5/2011.

The latest sample information is an average weight of 7.1 pounds and a sex ratio of 83% male and 17% female. The age comp was 0% 6 year olds, 13% 5 year olds, 87% 4 year olds and 0% 3 year olds. We have harvested ~3.0 million pounds to date - (7/7/2011).

The daily catches by the troll fleet on Homeshore have dropped off with a majority of the troll fleet leaving for Neets Bay chums or the summer Chinook fishery. Sample information from this weeks opener is as follows - Lynn Canal - average weight of 7.6 pounds and a sex ratio of 71% male and 29% female. The age comp was 1% - 6 year olds, 23% - 5 year olds, 76% - 4 year olds and 0% - 3 year old. Taku Inlet - average weight of 8.5 pounds and a sex ratio of 85% male and 15% female. The Crescent Lake sonar weir is installed and should be operational tomorrow 7/9/2011.

July 5 – Catch numbers continue to be good in Lynn Canal with a large fleet fishing. Chum fishing in Taku is starting to pick up. The daily catches by the troll fleet on Homeshore are starting to drop off with the troll fleet leaving for Neets Bay chums or the summer Chinook fishery. Sample information from Sunday's opener is as follows - Lynn Canal average weight of 7.6 pounds and a sex ratio of 71% male and 29% female. The age comp was 1% - 6 year olds, 23% - 5 year olds, 76% - 4 year olds and 0% - 3 year old. Taku Inlet average weight of 7.1 pounds and a sex ratio of 83% male and 17% female. The age comp was 0% - 6 year olds, 31% - 5 year olds, 69% - 4 year olds and 0% - 3 year old. Homeshore Troll chums - average weight of 6.3 pounds and 94% DIPAC produced chums.
