2007 DIPAC Harvest Season Update

This is the last harvest update for the 2007 season.

September 4 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1.5 million fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds. Snettisham sockeye cost recovery is nearly over with over 57,000 harvested to date. The last sample information is as follows: Average weight 5.7 lbs., sex ratio 23% male and an age comp of 60% - 5 yr/old, 40% - 4 yr/olds.

The Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th and has passed 2,050 sockeye into lake as of September 3rd.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was operational from July 14th to August 29th and counted a total of 1,795 fish into the lake.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery chum eggtake is complete.

August 27 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1.5 million fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 54,000 fish to date. The harvest continues at a slow rate. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 5.7 lbs., sex ratio 23% male and an age comp of 60% - 5 yr/old, 40% - 4 yr/olds.

The Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th and has passed 2,000 sockeye into lake as of August 29th.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was operational from July 14th to August 29th and counted a total of 1,795 fish into the lake.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery chum eggtake is complete.

August 23 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1.5 million fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 41,000 fish to date. The harvest continues at a slow rate. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.0 lbs., sex ratio 14% male and an age comp of 80% - 5 yr/old, 20% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 2,058 fish into the lake and they have passed 1,958 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 22nd.

August 20 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1.5 million fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 36,000 fish to date. The harvest has slowed again over the weekend. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.2 lbs., sex ratio 34% male and an age comp of 65% - 5 yr/old, 35% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 2,195 fish into the lake and they have passed 1,805 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 19th.

August 16 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1.5 million fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 25,000 fish to date. The harvest has picked up this week. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.3 lbs., sex ratio 33% male and an age comp of 61% - 5 yr/old, 39% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 2,177 fish into the lake and they have passed 1,463 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 15th.

August 13 – Chum cost recovery is over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,500,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.6 lbs., sex ratio 28% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 16% - 5 yr/old, 64% - 4 yr/old and 20% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 14,000 fish to date. The harvest to date is slowly picking up. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.0 lbs., sex ratio 38% male and an age comp of 60% - 5 yr/old, 40% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 2,107 fish into the lake and they have passed 965 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 12th.

August 9 – Chum cost recovery is nearly over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,380,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.8 lbs., sex ratio 27% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 26% - 5 yr/old, 58% - 4 yr/old and 16% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 6,800 fish to date. The harvest to date is slow for the beginning of August. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.2 lbs., sex ratio 39% male and an age comp of 60% - 5 yr/old, 40% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 1,925 fish into the lake and they have passed 757 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 8th.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery chum eggtake is going well with over 94 million eggs taken to date.

August 6 – Chum cost recovery is nearly over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,380,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 6.8 lbs., sex ratio 27% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 26% - 5 yr/old, 58% - 4 yr/old and 16% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested over 5,000 fish to date. The harvest to date is slow for the beginning of August. The latest sample information is as follows: Average weight 6.3 lbs., sex ratio 40% male and an age comp of 65% - 5 yr/old, 35% - 4 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 1,408 fish into the lake and they have passed 666 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 5th.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery chum eggtake is going well with over 69 million eggs taken to date.

August 2 – Chum cost recovery is nearly over. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,380,000 fish. Sample information for the this week is as follows: Average weight 6.8 lbs., sex ratio 27% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 26% - 5 yr/old, 58% - 4 yr/old and 16% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham sockeye cost recovery started on July 30th and has harvested 500 fish to date. The harvest to date is very slow for the end of July. We have not sampled the harvest yet but report sample information next Monday.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 904 fish into the lake and they have passed 408 sockeye into Speel Lake as of August 1st.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery chum eggtake is going well with over 47 million eggs taken to date.

July 30 – Chum cost recovery is still behind the predicted harvest curve. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,340,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 7.4 lbs., sex ratio 40% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 37% - 5 yr/old, 56% - 4 yr/old and 7% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham cost recovery is scheduled to start on July 30th, with a few fish seen around the hatchery so far.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 649 fish into the lake and they have passed 235 sockeye into Speel Lake as of July 29th.

July 26 – Chum cost recovery is still behind the predicted harvest curve. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,256,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 7.4 lbs., sex ratio 37% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 46% - 5 yr/old, 51% - 4 yr/old and 3% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham cost recovery is scheduled to start on July 29th, with a few fish seen around the hatchery so far.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 182 fish into the lake and they have passed 89 sockeye into Speel Lake as of July 25th.

July 23 – Chum cost recovery is still behind the predicted harvest curve. This has been a very unusual return year. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 1,090,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 7.8 lbs., sex ratio 47% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 48% - 5 yr/old, 49% - 4 yr/old and 3% - 3 yr/olds.

Snettisham cost recovery is scheduled to start on July 28th, with very few fish seen around the hatchery so far.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 23 fish into the lake and they have passed 38 sockeye into Speel Lake as of July 22nd.

July 19 – Chum cost recovery has fallen behind the predicted harvest curve. This has been a very unusual return year and is hard to predict were we are in the return. Total cost recovery harvest to date is approximately 915,000 fish. Sample information for this week is as follows: Average weight 7.7 lbs., sex ratio 47% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 40% - 5 yr/old, 55% - 4 yr/old and 5% - 3 yr/olds.

The Crescent Lake sonar system was installed and operational on July 14th and the Speel Lake weir was installed and operational on Friday July 13th. Crescent Lake has counted a total of 3 fish into the lake and they have not passed any sockeye into Speel Lake as of July 18th.

July 16 – Chum cost recovery has slowed down this week with a total harvest to date of approximately 765,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 7.6 lbs., sex ratio 49% male and an age comp of 0.5% - 6 yr/old, 42% - 5 yr/old, 55% - 4 yr/old and 2.5% - 3 yr/olds.

July 12 – Chum cost recovery continues to be up and down for the last week with a total harvest to date of approximately 604,000 fish. Sample information for this week is as follows: Average weight 7.8 lbs., sex ratio 53% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 39% - 5 yr/old, 60% - 4 yr/old and 2% - 3 yr/olds.

July 9 – Chum cost recovery has been up and down for the week with a total harvest to date of approximately 372,000 fish. Sample information for the last week is as follows: Average weight 7.7 lbs., sex ratio 61% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 40% - 5 yr/old, 59% - 4 yr/old and 1% - 3 yr/olds. The colder than normal saltwater temperatures maybe delaying the chums arrival into the harvest areas.

July 5 – Chum cost recovery has been up and down for the week with a total harvest to date of approximately 270,000 fish. Sample information for this week is as follows: Average weight 7.3 lbs., sex ratio 61% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 37% - 5 yr/old, 61% - 4 yr/old and 2% - 3 yr/olds. The colder than normal saltwater temperatures maybe delaying the chums arrival into the harvest areas.

July 2 – Chum cost recovery is on track at Amalga Harbor and fishing is slow in Gastineau Channel with a total of 80,000 fish harvested last week. Sample information for last week is as follows: Average weight 7.3 lbs., sex ratio 70% male and an age comp of 0% - 6 yr/old, 48% - 5 yr/old, 51% - 4 yr/old and 1% - 3 yr/olds. The colder than normal saltwater temperatures maybe delaying the chums arrival into the harvest areas.

June 28 – Chum cost recovery started today at Amalga Harbor with a good showing of fish and we will start fishing in the Channel tomorrow. The fish appear to be a little smaller than last year but quality looks very good. We will report sample information on Monday.

June 5 – Chum cost recovery should start around the 27th of June. Updates will be made as more information is available.
